Life-cycle lampshades

8 Aug

The year 5’s at Sir John Cass Primary School drew each stage of the life cycle of a plant along a landscape piece of paper which we then turned into lampshades to illustrate the cyclical nature of the life of plants. The illustrations were produced using black ink and tissue paper to achieve a bold, graphic style inspired by Lucienne Day‘s botanical textile designs.

Sir John Cass School – Seeds, beans and microorganisms

15 Feb

Year 5 at Sir John Cass FoundationPrimary school planted their own bean or seed to observe and study  for their plant life cycles project. Before long they were sprouting nicely! Here are some pics of their plants in the early stages and some observational drawings from their sketchbooks.

Year 6 were busy imagining what particular microorganisms look like from descriptions. Here is a taster of what they came up with in their sketchbooks.
